Fantastic Weekend

We had a fantastic weekend here at Chateau Montero. Saturday morning started off early with our favorite bike ride, out to Key Biscayne. The last Saturday of every month, we get up before first light, down some gatorade, and get on our bikes for a 45-mile roundtrip out to Key Biscayne. The scenery is beautiful, and we top the bridge out to the key just as the sun is finally coming up. We get to see our city, see our friends, and stop for cuban coffee out at La Carretta.

This month there were easily 50 cyclists on the group ride, and we averaged about 20mph on the way out, and over 22mph on the way back. My calf muscles are really sore! But by 10am we are back home and ready to start the rest of the day. We are so blessed to have a hobby we can enjoy together!

After the bike ride, we headed out to Miami Beach for time with grandma and grandpa. We weren't in the mood for the full on trek to the sand, etc. so we lounged by the pool and let grandma and grandpa deal with our part-fish daughter, Isabella. Good times.

Today was a lovely, lazy Sunday, although we had to say farewell to very good friends, Doug and Kristi. Doug is a federal agent, and got a promotion to go work with the big boys up in DC, so they are moving out of Florida after having lived here their whole lives. We had dinner together probably once every two weeks, they lead our small group, and our girls played together all the time, so we are REALLY going to miss them. That's the tough part about Miami... it's a very transient city, and our good friends may not always stick around all that long.

Our day finished off with picking some avocadoes from our tree. In Seattle, we had an apple tree, here we have an avocado tree. Not until we moved here did I know the variety of avocado we have here. Generically referred to as "Florida avocaodoes", these things are bigger than my fully extended hand, and a little starchier. I'll be making A LOT of guacamole for the freezer this week.

Also, for those Seattleites reading this post, we plan to be in town for the weekend of October 9-11th, so get ready, the Monteros are coming soon to a city near you. We're coming back to do several "gold parties", so we may not have a ton of social time, but please contact us if you're interested in seeing us and we'll try to find a way to fit it in. Stay tuned for more details, as we are starting our own gold party company...
